The Bigger PicturE

James may be my MP but he is a minor player in a much bigger picture. Much bigger than any single MP, our nation is in its most profound crisis since the Second World War. The origins of this crisis are multifarious, many coming from our long and uninterrupted history and many from our present economic, constitutional and social contexts. Our two main political parties are divided and, in my view, their divisions stem from a false analysis of the underlying causes of the crisis. This blog is ultimately about helping in its own small way to analyse, understand and find options for solutions to our national agony.

Since July 2016 the crisis has exploded into the open. The proportion of the population that creates things, runs things and works at the ‘high end’ of things, also, in my opinion, takes more than their fair share of the rewards of things. The rest of society feels resentful and they are right to feel that way. But we need to fully understand the reasons for that resentment. Only through understanding can we hope to find a way out of the crisis.

I have no power other than my single vote. Behind that vote however, I am determined to do whatever I can to influence the debate. The only way I have to influence those who have power happens to by way of my MP who, by chance is a Tory in a True Blue Constituency. The Tory Party has always encapsulated many fine characteristics but in the last three years, it has abandoned many of these which I see as a symptom of the false analysis of our country’s ills. So this is where my blog begins. With my MP.

The blog represents my efforts so far to change James’s stance on the Brexit crisis and subsequent events. It is a series of ‘mini-essays’ each, on average, of 825 words. As such, it represents an antidote to Twitter or X. It is a blow-by-blow account of how the Brexit debate has progressed since I first started writing to James in October 2018. It began with Mrs May and continued with Mr Johnson and Mrs Truss and into the Coronavirus and Ukraine War eras. It is continuing with whomsoever succeeds Boris. If I am anything, I am persistent.

Please add your comments to my posts. The blog is organised into various categories e.g. All Writings. Click on any of these to be taken to relevant posts over the Rishi Sunak as PM.

At the end of this piece you will find my ‘Score Card’. As you will see, I am still waiting for at least one considered reply from my MP.

Your comments are welcome! Just click on ‘Connect’ and write your message in the appropriate space.

Let’s enjoy the journey. Because together we can really change things.
