No. 3 - Sitting on the fence Mr Cartlidge?

Dear Mr Cartlidge,

I wrote to you several weeks ago but have received no reply.

In my mail I noted that you seem to be sitting on the fence regarding the realities of Brexit. I am afraid that that fence is fast disappearing beneath you and it will soon be time for you to make up your mind. Jo Johnson’s resignation yesterday was one of principle similar to the resignation of Ms. Crouch regarding the fixed odds betting issue two weeks ago. I would respectfully suggest that it is time for you too, to now consider your own principles.

The so-called 'Chequer’s Deal’ is an attempt to please every spectrum of Conservative opinion.  It is a distance much too far to bridge. The Tory Party itself will very soon have to decide whether it splits now, kicks the can down the road in order to delay splitting later or comes to some highly unlikely compromise between your warring factions.  Jo Johnson was right that Mrs May is preparing to present to the electorate two awful choices. Firstly to agree a deal which will leave our country in a worse position compared with our current membership of the EU. Or secondly, to offer us a no deal option. It is the choice between vassalage or chaos. Surely the only option is to put the question back to the British people?

In my opinion, therefore, it is time for you to consider what is best for our country and not what is best for the Tory Party. If you think it better for the country to crash out under WTO rules or some extremely long term Canada +++ fantasy, then please say so and I will respect your opinion even though I disagree with it. If on the other hand you decide that no other option that has so far been presented is superior to that of remaining in the EU, then please make that position clear also.

Sitting on the fence is no longer an option. It is time to decide.

 Yours sincerely,

BH - Your Concerned Constituent
