No.41 - Brexit is Delayed!

Dear James,

What a sorry spectacle!

Yesterday, our Prime Minister scampered over to Brussels and administered her cardboard projection of leadership before an audience who politely and yet firmly demonstrated that they have run out of sympathy for her and our nation. And what a contrast between the final press conference with Donald Tusk and J-C Juncker and the febrile, madness of the House of Commons. It said it all. Tusk was asked by a journalist if, should Mrs M’s deal fail next week, there should be more places made available in hell for those in the UK who had created this mess. Tusk said that according to the Pope ‘hell is still empty’,  ‘which means that there are still a lot of spaces.’ The relaxed and good natured laughter in the conference was such a contrast to the febrile anger in this part of the world. I felt left out.

To listen to calm, quiet discussion and deliberation unsullied by the antics of a group of pompous, recidivist old Tories, is quite a relief!

Several members of the gathering said that they were "surprised" that Mrs May seemed to be "seriously contemplating a no-deal scenario”. Another suggested that the UK is a "sick patient" that "needed special care" given the precarious state of Parliament.

Meanwhile, its is said that the military have opened up a bunker deep below the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall from which to react to any chaos after March 29th.

Then came the sad news. Mrs May sent a letter to all MPs on Friday : "If it appears that there is not sufficient support to bring the deal back next week, or the House (of Commons) rejects it again, we can ask for another extension before 12 April - but that will involve holding European Parliament elections."

What a mess!

Kind regards,

BH - Your Concerned Constituent
